Modifying Your Skincare Routine for the Summer

Summer is the time to soak in some rays as the sun takes center stage.

But this exposure to the sun's UV rays and excessive sweating brings along several issues to your skin. You get notorious sunburns, dark spots, freckles, an oily T-zone, clogged pores and potential acne breakouts.

However, you can modify your skincare routine for the summer as follows to ensure your skin has the necessary nutrients it requires to withstand the intense summer heat.

Never Skip Your Morning Skincare Routine

During the summer, the heat may cause you to feel lazy and therefore skip your morning routine.

But your skin needs some morning TLC to give it the protection it needs from increased challenges from the sun and heat.

So, start your morning routine by washing your skin with a gentle organic cleanser like any of our Moor Spa cleansers.

A gentle organic cleanser helps remove impurities, excess oils, and the products you used the night before.

Next, apply a hydrating toner. This preps your skin to be able to absorb the nutrients directly and maintain a radiant, nourished complexion.

For the glow, use a Vitamin C serum. Vitamin C serum packs a powerful punch of collagen that brings out your skin's natural radiance and leaves you looking refreshed and revitalized.

Remember the eyes if you want to minimize puffiness and those stubborn dark circles. Hydrate the eye area with an eye cream containing peptides or hyaluronic acid.

Peptides help in maintaining the elasticity of your skin which is greatly damaged by exposure to UV rays. whereas, hyaluronic acid keeps your skin hydrated for a long time which you badly need during the summer.

You also need more hydration, so apply a lightweight moisturizer to keep your skin refreshed and breathing.

Don’t forget to apply and reapply sunscreen—tinted or not—every few hours especially when you are outside. It is your best friend during the summer.

Our tinted sunscreen gives a two-in-one action as a foundation and protection against the sun!

Here's a table to help you understand the difference between regular and tinted sunscreen.

Aspect Sunscreen Tinted Sunscreen
Primary Function Protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays Protects against harmful UVA and UVB rays while offering light coverage
Coverage Transparent and invisible on the skin and mainly for sun protection Offers a light tint to even out skin tone that provides a natural, makeup-like finish

Skin Concerns Addresses sunburn and sun damage Conceals minor imperfections and redness

Cleanse and Pamper Your Face at Night

During the summer, you should not only pamper your skin in the morning. You need to enjoy your sleep while your skin breathes to ensure it does not start breaking out.

So get rid of all the makeup, sunscreen, sweat, dirt and any other impurities that may have touched your skin during the day by double cleansing.

The first cleanse is to break down the oil-based makeup and sunscreen, making it easier to remove. So use an oil-based cleanser or make-up remover.

The second cleanse is for a deep wash to clean up any remaining residue. After the second cleanse, rinse off your face with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft clean face towel.

Exfoliate your skin thereafter to eliminate any remaining dead skin cells, but avoid doing this every night.

Instead do it twice or thrice a week since over-exfoliating might further damage your skin by stripping its natural oils, which increases sensitivity to the sun.

Afterwards, apply a toner, depending on your skin type. The toner should contain one of these nutrients.

  • Retinol keeps you looking young by reducing fine lines or wrinkles that come along because of aging.
  • Niacinamide for any dark spots you may have while also shrinking enlarged pores.
  • Salicylic acid to unclog pores and help keep acne away by exfoliating dead skin cells.

Lastly, apply a thick moisturizing night cream for deep nourishment and rejuvenation. Also, do not forget the eyes. They need some moisturizing during the PM too.
